Preschool/ Early Childhood Special Education
Madison School District offers an integrated preschool program for children ages 3-5, providing opportunities for children with and without disabilities to learn and grow together. Children with special needs are placed in classrooms with same-age peers who demonstrate typical development and can serve as positive role models for language and social skills. The curriculum focuses on fostering growth in key developmental areas, including cognitive skills (pre-academic and academic skills), communication skills, personal/social skills, adaptive skills, and motor skills.

Have concerns about your child’s development?
Preschool special education services are designed to support children ages 3-5 who have developmental delays or disabilities. Madison School District provides these services in an inclusive environment, along with related supports such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Language Therapy.
Your child may benefit from preschool special education services if they experience delays in development. This could include challenges with communication, play, movement, social interaction, or learning compared to other children their age. The best way to determine if your child needs special education services is through an evaluation. A qualified professional will observe and interact with your child in a preschool setting, and some assessments may also be conducted. Evaluations are offered at no cost.
