COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Our community is much more than where our home is located. It is a network where you can connect & build relationships with others. Many studies have shown that building healthy relationships & spending time with your family, friends, & others in your community can help improve your overall mental well-being. The Madison Cares Department as part of the Madison School District is happy to bring our community members together through the following free events.
EDUCATION SERIES
[ SEPTEMBER - APRIL]
PINWHEELS FOR PREVENTION
[ APRIL ]
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as the new national symbol for child abuse prevention because, by its very nature, the pinwheel connotes playfulness, joy, & childhood. The pinwheel serves as a physical reminder of the great childhoods we want for all of our children. Pinwheels for prevention is a national campaign designed to increase the awareness & prevention of child abuse & promote healthy child development. The Madison School District & Madison Cares believe that all families deserve to live in communities with adequate resources to support families & provide opportunities for healthy growth & healthy developmental experiences for children. Through pinwheel displays, our community can demonstrate its commitment to helping children & families live healthy, happy lives.
To report child abuse, call the Idaho CareLine by dialing 2-1-1 or call 1-855-552-KIDS (1-855-552-5437) or call local law enforcement.
SUMMER CAMP
[ JUNE - JULY ]
Summer camps are a fun interactive opportunity for children to learn social skills, coping strategies, & to make new friends. We foster an activity-rich environment through games, hands-on experiences, & field trips. We focus on demonstrating & practicing healthy emotional regulation skills such as expressing & communicating our thoughts, feelings, & emotions, using self-control, listening attentively, & following directions. In addition to learning some new skills, our summer camp kids have a lot of fun!
Summer Camps are are held during June & July & available for children who are entering 1st grade through entering 5th grade.

START WITH HELLO
[ FALL TIME ]
Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization founded & led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. The Start with Hello campaign was started by Sandy Hook Promise. The campaign teaches empathy & empowers youth & adults to recognize, intervene, & get help for individuals who may be socially isolated, lonely, or feel disconnected from others.
Madison Cares & our school district hold a Start with Hello Week every fall.
SECRET SANTA
[ NOVEMBER - DECEMBER ]
Madison School District & Madison Cares fulfill the holiday wishes of some families in Rexburg each holiday season. We have local families in our community who approach us with a wish to help their fellow community members & neighbors & have the resources to brighten the holidays with generosity. With the efforts of the Madison Cares team, district staff, giving families, & a team of kind volunteers, we are able to create holiday miracles.
